About this Pilates

This style of Pilates is not just another exercise method to “get fit”, in a mechanical way.

It is a multi-layered body-mind practise that works at a deep level to create change through body awareness by re-educating the body to release tension and re-balance the muscles to correct postural imbalances.

It strengthens and lengthens the body to improve co-ordination,and flexibility which leaves a deep sense of well-being.

The movements created are functional in improving the body‘s efficiency in everyday task.

Shirley has developed the Body Harmony Approach,a more intuitive practise that integrates awakening the spine with the emphasis on the breath, gravity and space to allow a deep unwinding of tension that holds the body back from ease of movement.

The work is not a repetitive system of exercise but a practise of developing awareness and curiousity to explore and free the body from stress and pain.

Pilates is recommended by many health professionals; osteopaths, physiotherapist, chiropractors and general practitioners. This approach is ideal in keeping the body at ease and functionally healthy and is ideal for everyone regardless of age or fitness level.
